Christmas came early to 50 children this morning at Tillamook’s Fred Meyer when kids and police officers alike gathered for the 20th annual Shop with a Cop event.
The event, spearheaded by Tillamook Police Chief Nick Troxel, identifies children in Tillamook County that may need some additional cheer on Christmas, and organizes a fund raising event and the shopping event to deliver on that goal.
“As we celebrate the 20th year of our Shop with a Cop program, I am reminded of the incredible impact this program has had on our community. This annual event is a testament to the power of partnership, and we are deeply grateful to TLC and Fred Meyer for their unwavering support over the years. Together, we have been able to bring joy and relief to countless families during the holiday season, while strengthening the bond between our officers and the community we serve,” said Chief Troxel. “This milestone is not just about the years we’ve put in—it’s about the lives we’ve touched and the smiles we’ve shared. We look forward to continuing this tradition for many more years to come.”
More than twenty officers and their spouses from the law enforcement agencies that serve Tillamook County shopped with the kids. As they made their way around the store, you could see many of the officers, deputies, troopers and rangers using calculator apps on their phones trying to keep track of the total of items – as the kids continued filling their shopping carts.
TLC Fibre Federal employees were on hand to assist and wrap the hundreds of presents picked out by the kids, so they could be opened on Christmas morning. More than $10,000 was raised for this year’s event, which all agree, was a huge success.
“The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with Tillamook Police and our other law enforcement partners and participate in this significant event, which spreads happiness and Christmas cheer to many local families this holiday season,” said Sheriff Joshua Brown.
