After being appointed by the Oregon Senate to serve as the Coastal Counties’ representative on the Land Conservation and Development Commission, I’m writing today to say “thank you.”
The first thank you goes to the voters in Clatsop County’s District 5. Without the grace and support of their votes, again and again and again, I wouldn’t hold the seat that allows me to serve. They’ve shown their trust that I’m always working for them, no matter where I’m located at any particular moment.
The second thank you goes to the team at Clatsop County, including my fellow commissioners and all the County employees: it’s always a team effort, and everyone contributed to this appointment.
The third thank you goes to our Governor, Tina Kotek, who honored me with her nomination.
The fourth thank you goes to Sen. Suzanne Weber and Rep. Cyrus Javadi, whose support was instant and warmly positive.
The fifth thank you goes to my colleagues from all around the state, who voiced their support of my appointment. We’ve worked together at the Association of Oregon Counties for the past nine years, looking for common ground to do good for Oregonians. One of them said to me, “You and I don’t always agree, but I know that you’ll always listen to me and play fair in your decisions.” Sweet praise.
Now comes the interesting work of navigating essential adaptation of land use regulation in Oregon. It’s a steep learning curve and challenging to do. Thank you all for helping me do the job as we go forward together.
Lianne Thompson
Clatsop County Commissioner, District 5
