Where do I even start with the latest Adam Driver vehicle “65”? The film, written and directed by Scott Beck Bryan Woods, is an absolute masterpiece that quickly replaced many of my long-standing favorite sci-fi flicks. From the breathtaking cinematography to the impeccable acting, every aspect of this movie was truly phenomenal.
Adam Driver’s performance was peak but the breakout star, Ariana Greenblatt, played off his fatherly instincts revealing a slow-burn, tear-jerker wrapped in an alien flick, stuffed in a dinosaur action drama. Imagine “Aliens”, “Jurassic Park”, and “Don’t Look Up” had a super baby.
And although it has a terrible Rotten Tomato Score so far, the Audience Score is much higher, don’t believe the hate.
This is a family friendly flick sure to please the entire family (it’s loud though so you might want ear plugs for the little ones).
And because the world is ending (both in the movie and out) the theater was completely empty in the matinee showing.
The plot, in brief…
A pilot transporting people crash lands on a planet. He must brave the wilds and face dinosaurs and ancient geysers to save the one remaining survivor.
My heart was racing the entire time. It’s a simple flick but does the trick.
Overall, “65” is an absolute must-see film for anyone who appreciates great sci-fi, exceptional acting, and compelling storytelling. Despite the empty theater at the matinee showing, this movie deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. It’s a true masterpiece that will leave you in awe and should not be missed.
And ya, I know some people will think less of me for this opinion, but studios almost passed on Star Trek so what the heck do people know anyway.
Truly the best thing about the movie? It’s fun. You don’t have to think to enjoy it. Sometimes we need that.
