Good morning on behalf of Malia Blackmon and Animal Haven by The Sea Rescue we would like to thank the community for coming together to support the rescue during this difficult time. We would also like to thank those who have donated, called, sent messages asking how you can help. We have started theLeeBlockmanfoundation Facebook page, this will be a spot for the community to post stories, Pictures, come together for love and support. It will also be a place where we will post any fundraisers. Talk about any upcoming events and what is needed to help the Blackmon family.
For the moment we need donations, several different kinds, both of the monetary and non-monetary.
For monetary donations there’s several ways that you can do that. Please make sure that it is with a verified site that Malia has access to. You may donate through the PayPal button on the Animal Haven site, Venmo, cash app or directly through the bank First Security in Manzanita, there are donation jars throughout many businesses in Manzanita, you can donate at Nehalem Animal Healing Clinic, the United Methodist Church in Nehalem, Grumpy’s Cafe in Rockaway Beach.
We also need donations made directly to the accounts at PUD and water. The more money we can put on these accounts the less the rescue needs to worry about them for the next couple of months. You can make donations directly for Malia Blackmon or for Animal Haven by the sea at First Security Bank.
Our goal is to raise enough funds so that Malia can take the next few months to heal and decide how best to help the rescue and keep it going in Lee Blackmon’s honor as well as make the necessary repairs of the rescue for safety of both the animals and the Blackmon family.
For the immediate need, if people can donate dry cat food that will help to try and maintain the food bank site until we can get things situated.
We will also be needing wet food for both dogs and cats, as well as dry dog food. There is also a need for litter. Any type would be greatly appreciated, but clumping litter is best when you have multiple cats.
People have asked if they can help with meals. We are looking into setting up a meal train for both Malia and Russell as well as Lee’s parents. watch the foundation page for more information on that.
We are overwhelmed and so appreciative of the community’s response, and would like to thank everybody. Please remember to be kind to each other. Everyone’s fighting a battle that we are unaware of.
If anybody has any questions, concerns, or ideas, please feel free to email to theLeeBlockmanfoundation@gmail.com.
Rising Hearts Studio in Nehalem continues to provide support and a safe space with resources and more.
Christy Kay of Cosmic Healing shares, “Now, I want to talk a little bit about anger. Anger is a normal, very valid emotion, that comes with grief and loss….. especially with unexpected and unexplainable loss.
Anger needs to be felt, to be expressed, to be witnessed, to be released…..”
For millenia, cultures have mourned through wailing and screaming – to release the anger and grief.
There will be a Sacred Scream Session on Sunday morning at 9 AM, on the beach. We will meet on the end of Laneda, in Manzanita
Please join us, to scream, to cry, to wail- to release some of our anger…..within a safe, supportive and loving container.

As a community we are all feeling the loss of Lee Blackmon. Lee took care of everything and everyone. I don’t think that is an exaggeration. His posts to Facebook are full of the love that he spread to the world. A dog that needed a home, a kitten that needed medical attention. The homeless vet hitchhiking up the 101 who needed a new pair of shoes and a sleeping bag. Little flags on every grave at the veteran’s cemetery, meals to the elderly, soccer coach, and so much more.
Lee is calling on us all to step up, to be better, to love one another.
As a community, our hearts go out to his wife, family, friends and anyone who has had the privilege of meeting him.
This is the amazing organization that Lee founded:
At this time we as a community need to come together to support his wife Malia, his best friend and parents through this heartbreaking time. As we all know Lee would spend his last penny to help an animal or person in need. Please help his family now in their time of need. Any donations would be so appreciated, directly to the Lee Blackmon Foundation at First Security Bank, Manzanita, or through the website.
