The Full Moon in Cancer floated in on January 6th at 3:08pm PST. The Full Moon in Cancer with the Sun in Capricorn is always an emotional one but this year its on steroids. You might have the range of emotions from “I love everyone!” To “It’s no use.” Hang in there, this is a Moon meant to create safe space to feel like being at Grandma’s.
Cancer is a sign that feels very deeply. It is all about comfort, home, family, comfort food and everything cozy. It is also about courage, strength and tenacity. Cancers have the nick name in astrology as “the protectors” because they are fierce when it comes to defending their loved ones or those that need it.
Cancer also represents our lineage, where we come from, our family of origin, our culture and it is the container of our emotions. Emotions are our guide, showing us the way when we are lost, much like a loving parent. When we feel uncomfortable and out of our comfort zone, emotions guide us back to our center, even if it is a meandering trail through the dark woods.
Emotions are caused by what we think so if we pay attention to our feelings, then we can get an idea of what we are thinking. We think something like 60k thoughts a day and there is no way to sort out the useful ones from the harmful ones unless we listen to our emotions. Those guide us towards what thoughts we are believing and acting on. If you are feeling something and have no idea why, follow the feelings to the thought you are believing. Then you have the knowledge to change it.
This Full Moon is opposing (across from) the Sun in Capricorn conjunct Mercury retrograde so this weekend can be filled with miscommunications and missed connections that can also lead to . . . emotions. Relax and make an effort not to be attached to your plans and expect delays with grace.
It is also square Chiron, the dwarf planet/comet that represents healing and our unmastered wounds so you might be having some old feelings percolate up. These might be feelings that you thought you’d made peace with or buried carefully away. Understand that these are just sensations coming to the surface that need to be looked at and cleaned up. Perhaps it will show you where you need to do some work to make peace with these old wounds.
Ultimately, this is a lovely Moon that invites us to feel our emotions and do lots of self-care! Draw a bubble bath, play beautiful music and eat cozy foods. Cuddle up with someone and watch a fun movie with popcorn. Use this energy to put some love into your homelife and yourself. This is the “cultivate home” and bake a quiche Moon.
