ASTROLOGY: New Moon Eclipse 10.14.23

“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans” –John Lennon (Libra)

We have a New Moon in Libra with a solar eclipse happening today, October 14th 2023 at around 9:20am PDT. This solar eclipse is very interesing to see because it is a ring of fire eclipse. It is called an “annular solar eclipse” and this occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun at a time when the Moon is at its farthest point from our planet. Because of this, the Moon does not completely obscure the face of the Sun, unlike in a total solar eclipse but creates a beautiful fire ring to behold.

The eclipse started around 8:20am and will be in the “fire ring” phase at 9:20am. IF we don’t have clouds and IF you have the right eye protection, this is a treat to see! It will be visible in the PNW so let’s hope the cloud cover gives us a break. Please wear adequate eye wear! Do not look directly at the Sun without it or you can sustain eye damage!

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Glimpses were seen through the clouds in some locations, but obscured for most of the PNW.

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled astrology….

This New Moon eclipse is in the fair sign of Libra. It is a highly aspected New Moon that is getting our attention in more than the astronomical one! This New Moon is all about relationships, be it with ourselves or with others and weighing what makes them valuable or not.

Libra is the astrological sign from roughly September 21-October 21st. This is a very interesting sign as it is the only one that is represented by an inanimate object.. the scales. This sign was the last sign to be added to the Zodiac by the Romans around the second century AD. Before they decided to invent it, it was part of the Scorpion constellation.

They wanted to add a Zodiac sign that represented the higher pursuits of humanity and the intellect. Libra is an Air sign that is very cerebral but is ruled by Venus, which gives the sign a strong sense of value, particularly in relationships. I personally think the Romans didn’t intend that tendency but if you want to pursue the value of being human…. All roads lead to relationships.

This highly charged New Moon is bringing to light where we are lacking in our relationships both within and without. It has a bit of a removed feeling to it, like you are watching your relationships flashing before your eyes while setting in a movie theater with a big box of popcorn. This is due to Venus, who rules this sign, being literally the farthest away from it as possible. What if…. We could really just step back from the upheaval of human emotions and weigh what we need to do from a place of impartialness? What if?

We are being given a gift in this New Moon to see what needs to be curated, what needs to be finalized and what directions to go when we wrap up those things. You can get caught in either a dither or a “Me against the world” scenarios, but I invite you to let go of those traps and choose the middle road, like any good Libra would do.  In truth, we are not in control of how things unfold. The best course of action during this New Moon is emotionally distancing ourselves from the situation and letting things be.

Do what Venus would do, walk away from the battle and see what magic might grow in that great act of humanity.
