“I often ask myself what the purpose of life is. I conclude that it is to be happy,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama
The New Moon and Sun are dancing together in the very social sign of Gemini and there is a party going on! If ever there was an enjoyable New Moon, this is the one. Venus is exactly conjunct the Sun and Moon, leading the bunny hop with Mercury and Jupiter joining in on the line dance. They’ve got disco balls sparkling and upbeat music playing as they all delight in fun.
This conga line of planets in Gemini can bring a lightness of being and a bit of “devil-may-care” optimism that we could all use a healthy dose of! It’s especially a great time to connect with your tribe and enjoy the delights of relationships and conversations.
It can also be a challenging time to ground and get anything done. This fun airy energy wants to chase butterflies and wander off into beautiful sunlit (The Sun! Finally!) meadows with friends instead. In this “to-do” list driven culture, I think it is important to honor this playful and connective energy during this New Moon.
Be gentle with yourself however as the temptation to beat up on yourself for doing frivolous things is powerful. That is because Saturn (the task master planet) is squaring off the conga line in Gemini and is wagging his finger at them to stop the nonsense. But … He is outnumbered by all the planets in Gemini and they can easily thumb their noses at him.
Practice allowing yourself a bit of nonsense and silliness. It’s good medicine right now.
In fact, the energy of this Moon is great for tackling any addictions to perfectionism. Gemini knows there is no such thing as being perfect but joy and playfulness are very obtainable. Give yourself that grace for the next few days.
The way to connect with this spirited New Moon is to get curious and not take yourself so serious.
This Moon is a perfect opportunity to try something new you’ve always wanted to but haven’t. With the square to Saturn, it is an excellent time to devote yourself to that curiosity so that you can really dig in and experience it.
Do you want to take a dancing or art class? Learn to play an instrument or a new language? This is the time! Give it a try without attachment to the outcome. Just do it for experiential reasons and to invite more happiness into your life.
Remember the wise words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, “The purpose of life is to be happy.”
Go play in the Sun!
