The Atmospheric River took aim at the North Oregon Coast today December 5th. Both Tillamook School District and Neah-Kah-Nie School District closed schools today, and Nestucca Valley had an early release. Power outages were scattered throughout the county, and flooding was reported from Neskowin into Clatsop County with multiple road closures. One of the hardest hit areas in Tillamook County was Miami Foley Road. Here are some photos from Jayne Norvelle and a video from filmmaker Jesse Clark showing the damage along Miami Foley.
As the ODOT report states below, many roads remain closed; it’s still raining and all the roads have standing water.
FROM ODOT – Oregon Dept. of Transportation: With rain continuing throughout this week, expect high water on roads in western Oregon and potential detours and temporary closures in trouble spots. Highways along the coast and through the coast range are getting heavy rainfall. Since Tuesday morning there have been closures and detours in these high-water areas:
* U.S. 101 between Seaside and the junction with U.S. 26 may remain closed — no local detour is available. We will monitor the level 24/7 and open this section when possible — first to high-clearance vehicles such as commercial trucks, then, once the water has receded enough, to other vehicles.
* U.S. 101 also may be closed with detours or lane closures with flaggers in Tillamook and near Neskowin.
* OR 6 may be closed in Tillamook with a detour.
If you need to travel, give yourself extra time for the trip and be prepared for delays and detours. And slow down for low visibility and longer stopping distances in such wet weather. Also slow down and watch out for highway crews and emergency responders. More Info Here
