The City of Bay City is pleased to announce that the City Council adopted a Firewise Action Plan at its regular meeting on October 10, 2023.
Activated by the proximity of the Pike Road Fire in 2020, a core group within the Bay City Emergency Volunteers has been working to improve the City’s preparedness for wildfires, and specifically helping property owners better prepare their properties for wildfire risk reduction.
“With the adoption of this Plan, we have taken a significant step in realizing the goals of preparing our community in preventing wildfire damage,” said City Manager David McCall, “but there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Thanks to our good, cooperative relationship with Garibaldi, we were able to utilize some specialized equipment to start creating a fuel break and reduce the overgrown vegetation amassed in our public rights-of-way.”
The City of Garibaldi procured this equipment in 2023 through a grant from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, for use in the region for fire fuel reduction activities. “This specialized equipment augments the capacity of our Public Works Department for this task.”
