The anticipated opening of the Cape Meares Loop Road will indeed go forward. According to Tillamook County Public Works Director Chris Laity, “It is currently anticipated that the new alignment of Cape Meares Loop will open in late November.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony scheduduled for Monday November 6th has been postponed. In his email, Laity continued, “Recent weather forecasts are calling for up to an inch of rain and will likely be more at the top of the Cape. Based on these two factors, it has been decided to cancel the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Monday, November 6th.”
A ceremony will be scheduled for Spring of 2024, when the weather is no longer a reasonable concern.
The road will open this fall/winter in advance of the spring ceremony.
Public Works will have staff at either end of the road on Monday November 6th in case this message does not reach everyone.
Watch for future announcements of the road opening to the public before the end of November.
The road is currently closed to the public as finishing details, such as guard rail installation continues.
A couple weeks ago, the Pioneer recieved a tour of the 1.7 mile stretch that Public Works Director Laity states, “This route has views that rival Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain on Hwy. 101.” He’s not wrong – the views north and south from atop the Cape are stunning, and the 12% elevation climb, combined with the well-engineered “park-like” road will definitely be a jewel in the Tillamook County scenic views crown.
