It saddens me to see negative advertising raise its ugly head here in the commissioners race. On a positive note, it provides a clear picture of Mr. Lovelin’s lack of preparation and knowledge of the position. When applying for any new position it is imperative to do your research. What are the duties and responsibilities? Negotiating a multi-million dollar budget? Allocation of funds to a myriad of local and county entities? Working with local, state and federal agencies on fiscal policies? Insuring compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations? The learning curve is steep on any one of these responsibilities, let alone the entire lot. Full disclosure – I know Erin and greatly admire her dedication and hard-earned knowledge. It has and will continue to pay dividends to Tillamook County. Conversely, I know absolutely nothing about Mr. Lovelin. There was nothing about you in the voter pamphlet. What is your work background? Education? What have you contributed to our county? Voluntary leadership positions and community service? What is the reason for wanting to be a commissioner? What programs will you change? What new challenges and programs do you foresee? If you didn’t know, why are you applying for the job? Hearsay and glittering generalities don’t win races. I’m urging everyone to support Erin Skaar for County Commissioner position #2. She has earned our votes.
