Dear Community,
Today, January 20, 2025, as we enter a new chapter, inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, we come to you as members of the Latino community, committed to building a more just and equitable future, bound by shared dreams and hopes, dedicated to the place we all come home. Our journey as Latinos is intertwined with every community, as together we strive to build a united and thriving Oregon.
In the many faces of our community, you will find stories of perseverance and hard work. Latino hands touch every corner of life here – whether it’s in hospitality, where we greet guests with warmth and care; in tourism, sharing the beauty of our region; in the canneries and dairies, tirelessly working to help sustain families, in the nurseries and logging sites, nurturing the land and contributing to its growth; or in the local businesses and food industries, adding our flavors and traditions to the rich tapestry of our shared culture.
Yet, much of what we bring to the table often goes unrecognized. Our contributions to vital industries are essential, and our presence strengthens the very fabric of our community. We take pride in our work, knowing that our efforts help to create a place where everyone can thrive.
Juan is a local dairy worker, starts his day before the sun rises ensuring that the milk he collects is fresh and becomes the yogurt or cheese you enjoy in your breakfast in the morning. Despite the long hours and physical demands, Juan finds joy in his work, knowing that he’s providing for his family and contributing to the community he loves and calls home. His story is just one of many reflecting the dedication and resilience of our Latino community.
María owns and operates a food truck, crafting delicious dishes that bring the flavors of our heritage to life. Each day, she prepares tamales, enchiladas, and other traditional foods, ensuring they are ready to delight her customers. Maria’s business not only supports her family but it also brings people together, fostering a sense of community through the shared love of tasty food. Her story is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that enriches all our lives.
We cherish the diversity that makes our community vibrant and strong. We stand side by side with you, we are here, steadfast and committed. Together, we can create a place where all voices are heard and valued, where unity and understanding pave the way for a brighter future.
To our fellow Oregonians we extend a heartfelt invitation and call to action: show up and stand with us. Recognize our contributions, celebrate our culture, and support us as we work together to build a brighter tomorrow. May our shared journey lead us to a place of mutual respect, appreciation, and unity. Together, we can build the Oregon we all deserve.
Siempre adelante,
Consejo Hispano
