(MANZANITA, OR, October, 2023)
The Emergency Volunteer Corps of Nehalem Bay (EVCNB) partnered with the Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue team for an Open House on Saturday, October 14th.
The Nehalem Bay Fire Department celebrated October as Fire Prevention month and opened its door to the community. Their goal was to introduce residents to the services available during an emergency, health crisis, or natural disaster. Fire department personnel and volunteers showed off their equipment, demonstrated CPR and other rescue techniques, and provided a live kitchen fire demonstration.
All sections of EVCNB work closely with the Fire Department and first responders in our region and they welcomed the opportunity to talk to community members about emergency preparedness. More than 20 EVCNB volunteers set up information booths inside the fire house. They were supported by many others behind the scenes helping to make this a successful and valuable event.
More than 200 attendees got to meet CERT volunteers and learn about training classes, view WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) solutions that could be used in a utilities outage, understand how the Medical Reserve Corps will supplement local health services, and know where to find Emergency Shelters during a disaster.
EVCNB volunteers were on hand explaining the Yellow Radio and Ham radio network and how it would be activated. Visitors got to view samples of GoBag supplies, take home lists of what should be in a GoBag, and see several types of GoBags that are regularly available for purchase at EVCNB Pop-up Shops.
Adults and children spent time with volunteers taking in the wealth of information provided by the EVCNB and we were able to add new registrants to the Prepare Your Neighborhood database.
