(Garibaldi, Oregon – March 26, 2025) — The importance of safety at sea cannot be overstated, and this spring, local commercial fishermen will have the opportunity to strengthen their emergency preparedness skills through a comprehensive FREE Drill Conductor course. Designed for commercial fisherman, this hands-on training equips participants with the critical knowledge and practical skills necessary to lead emergency drills and respond effectively during maritime emergencies.
Training for Commercial Fishermen is required by 46 DFR 28.279(c). Refresher training is recommended every 5 years.
Offered by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, the course will cover a wide range of vital topics, including man-overboard recovery, fire suppression, flooding and damage control, abandon-ship procedures, and the proper use of life-saving equipment.
Participants will practice real-world scenarios, ensuring they feel confident and prepared to protect themselves and their crews while out on the water.
The Drill Conductor Course is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and fulfills federal safety requirements for commercial fishing vessels.
