The Great Kindness Challenge launched on Monday with a big greeting from the Garibaldi community for students on Monday, January 27th with a gauntlet of greeters. Students entered the school surrounded by Coast Guard members, Garibaldi Fire Department members and other community members, holding signs with encouraging messages, handing out hearts and giving high fives.
“The event was as much fun for the community members as it was for the kids,” commented Cherie Hasenoehrl, counselor at Garibaldi Grade School. “The Coast Guard said this the way we should start every week!”
Garibaldi Grade School has taken on the Great Kindness Challenge this week – January 27-31. The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. The Great Kindness Challenge is one week (or month or year) devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible at the school.
