For today and New Year’s Day, you can expect mostly sunny skies, courtesy of a high pressure ridge over the area. This will provide some light easterly winds with highs up around the mid 50s, lows in the upper 30s.
By Tuesday morning there is a weak trough of low pressure pushing eastward towards the coast, nudging the ridge east also. This will bring rain on Tuesday that persists through Tuesday night. This will increase the easterly winds to 5-10, highs in the low 50s, lows in the low 40s.
With a weak ridge moving in there is a decreasing chance of rain Wednesday under partly sunny skies again, but the break is short as another trough will bring an increasing chance of rain Thursday, highs up around 53, lows still around 41.
With the cooler trough moving across we see cloudy, rainy, and breezy conditions for Friday that also lowers the high temperatures to around 49, with the lows dropping into the mid and upper 30s. It will also start to push the snow level down to around 2500’ so the higher Coast Range Mountain are looking at a chance of snow next weekend.
The elevated Sneaker Wave threat has subsided but know that this is a threat 365 days a year along our coast, the threat is just higher under certain conditions. With another set of troughs moving in next week that increases the offshore winds once again, it is likely the threat will increase once more. There were some impressive videos on TV and Facebook from the last set of sneaker waves that caught people at and near the beach off guard, from California up through Oregon, including Barview. There were even some injuries to individuals who thought they were safe while taking pictures, but found out to late, they were not! Don’t let that be you!!!
