We had a weak trough moving through to the east today in a pretty much zonal flow, while there was a low pressure area spinning up in the Gulf of Alaska. It looked like a secondary low was developing to the southwest of that low and racing southeastward across the Pacific towards northern California. All these will be the big players in this weekend’s forecast that extends into next week.
So, while today started out dry except for a few showers that gave a few spots some light rain, the rain moved back in this afternoon ahead of another warm front moving in that gives us rain and warming temperatures tonight. With the winds becoming southerly 10-15 gusting to 20, the temperature will drop into the upper 40s before actually rising to near 54 after midnight.
Again, sorry my fellow veterans, the rain continues tomorrow morning as the associated cold front moves through, then we transition to post-frontal showers late morning with some breezy westerly winds 15-20 gusting to 35 with gusts to 45-50 possible at the beaches, the high near 57 before starting to drop in the afternoon behind the front. The decreasing showers activity will continue tomorrow night but then the clouds and rain chance returns after midnight with another approaching front, the winds now southeasterly 4-8, lows near 46.
Sunday is cloudy and rainy with southerly winds 5-10, highs near 56, then rainy and breezy Sunday night with another system moving in, lows near 45.
The models have still not developed a clear picture of the weather for next week. I think we see rain with the front finally pushes though Monday then post-frontal showers develop that night. Showers persist into Tuesday with a trough just west of the region and a closed low pressure area that develops west of California that could eject areas of shower towards the northeast bringing periods of showers to our area, off and on, for much of next week. It does appear that the cut-off low pressure area that had been hanging out west of California will finally weaken and push inland by next weekend. High temperature next week around 55, the lows near 40.
Happy Veterans Day (tomorrow)
Originally known as Armistice Day, it is now a Federal Holiday honoring our military veterans of the U.S. Armed Services. November 11th was picked as it was the day that major hostilities were formally ended, on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of 1918. At the request of major U.S. Veterans Organizations, the day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Not to be confused with Memorial Day that comes in May, honoring the service members who have died in military service, Veterans Day honors those who have served in our Armed Services, including those who have sacrificed their lives for our country. It is a day in celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
I don’t know the author, but I like the quote, “On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.”
