And the next in the series of December storms went through this morning bringing some mainly light rain with some gusty winds. By the afternoon we transitioned to showers, still breezy, then tonight an associated trough increases the shower threat and brings a threat of thunderstorms into the area. The winds tonight are southerly 15-20 gusting to 35, overnight lows near 47.
By the early morning hours tomorrow we will have more rain moving in with winds southerly 8-12, the high near 58, the rain eases tomorrow night, east winds 8-12, lows near 48. With only light rain expected from these systems, rainfall totals with each system should stay below ¼”.
Friday, we see more rain with gusty east winds 10-15 gusting to 25, highs near 56, the rain continues Friday night with southeasterly winds 8-12, lows near 44.
The front finally pushes through around noon Saturday then we again transition back to scattered showers, highs near 55, more of the same Saturday night, lows near 44.
By Sunday, we have a trough of low pressure parked off the coast that will rotate more showers up across the coast so on New Year’s Eve we see showers with that chance of showers persisting through Monday (New Year’s Day), on into Tuesday. It does also turn a little cooler with highs now 53, but the lows down around 39. This will also pull the snow levels down, but they all stay well above the Coast Range passes. The higher Coast Range mountains may see some flurries by Monday, but that is it.
I will dig into it a little later, but…it is looking like the strong El Nino is likely to persist past January, so climate folks are going with near average temperatures and rainfall for the first month of 2024.
