Well now, the first measurable precipitation we have had in a while with some folks seeing a couple hundreds of an inch of rain as a trough of low pressure moved through. Next, a weak upper level low will push across and give us a chance of light scattered showers tonight, still with the cloudy skies. We see light southerly winds tonight, the low near 55.
Tomorrow looks mostly cloudy with that chance of some light scattered showers that become more widely scattered this evening, winds tomorrow becoming southerly 5-10, the high near 53. Tonight, we see the slight chance of showers being replaced with a chance of rain after around midnight as a low pressure area drops southward from around Vancouver Island, winds westerly 5-10 becoming more southerly after midnight, lows near 53.
The rain persists into Thursday, through the morning hours, then we see scattered showers in the afternoon. The winds Thursday becoming westerly 5-10, highs near 67. By Thursday night the showers are more widely scattered by around midnight, light winds, lows near 52.
It appears on Friday we have a low pressure area resting over our area so we can expect partly cloudy skies with a chance of showers, the high near 71, lows near 54. The low drifts south into northern California over the weekend but does leave us with mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers on Saturday, with the chance decreasing Saturday night, highs near 70, lows near 54. Sunday a trough moving across north of our area gives us another chance of showers with the highs cooling to near 65, lows near 51.
The Labor Day forecast is for partly sunny skies with a chance of showers the high near 65, lows near 50.
All this is good news for our wildland firefights!
Time for a Super Blue Moon
Don’t forget, the moon will be opposite the sun tomorrow and at its brightest at 7:36 Pacific Time. And it is a two-fer, Saturn will also be visible to the upper right of the moon then will appear to move clockwise around the moon.
Looking at the moon right at moonrise, to the southeast, makes it appear the biggest though is should already be 14% bigger and 30% brighter as the moon is at its closest (222,043 miles) to earth, compared to when it is at its furthest from earth (252,088 miles).
The next time this Super Blue Moon is scheduled is not until November 5th, 2025.
Looking at the above forecast, it may be hard to see because of the clouds and rain ☹
