By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer
It’s TGIF Friday folks, we made it. We did see a few spotty light showers this morning, with some breezy east winds. It looks like we remain stuck between high pressure to the east, and a low and trough just off the coast to the west. We continue to see the, “system in waiting” offshore, just hanging there, and with the ridge still to the east, we also continued to see the breezy east winds. We see increasing clouds this afternoon as the offshore system drifts closer to the coast which pushes in a slight chance of some off and on rain this evening with rain likely by midnight or shortly thereafter. We will also see the winds increasing to easterly 15-25 gusting to 35 to 40 tonight and the low drops to near 41.
The rainy, breezy weather continues tomorrow with the east winds 10-15 gusting to 30, the high near 50. Then we transition to showers by tomorrow night, the winds ease, becoming easterly 8-12, lows near 41. Total rainfall Saturday should be less that ¼”, and the snow level should be up around 5000’. The shower activity eases by Sunday afternoon under mostly cloudy skies, the winds now southerly 8-12, the highs near 56. The shower chance returns in the early morning hours, lows near 42./It looks like the developing low pressure area I mentioned in my previous forecasts, will just hang off the coast of Northern California for the start of next week but with a trough off the coast here, we see showers for Monday which is Presidents Day/Washington’s Birthday. With little change in the pattern through the first half of next week, we can expect partly sunny to mostly cloudy days, and mostly cloudy nights, all with that chance of showers through at least Wednesday, highs warming up to near 58, nighttime lows near 43. Well, it’s a short one today as the pattern doesn’t change a great deal, so I will just say, this is the Tillamook County Pioneer meteorologist Gordon McCraw says, hope yall have a great weekend, see ya Monday.
