GORDON’S WEEKLY WEATHER UPDATE 1/20/25: Cold Temperatures Continue; Slight Chance of Rain Thursday

Posted on January 20, 2025 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

A lot of stuff happened today, officially it’s a holiday, Martin Luther King Day, and we had a new President sworn in this morning. Here locally, high pressure remains to the west as cold air continues to pour in over the area with the easterly winds, bringing a Cold Weather Advisory for the forecast area that covered the area from the coast, eastward to the Cascades through late this morning. This all brought in some cold overnight temperatures with the low at the airport falling to 23 this morning. It was also cold over in the valley with the low temperatures in the low to mid 20s, and east of the Cascades in the teens to single digits. The models show the pattern changes little for the next few days then Wednesday we start to see some change with the east winds that are pushing in the cold temperatures easing, as high clouds announce an incoming front. This will slowly ease the very cold temperatures we have been seeing.

Now for that forecast, we did see some high clouds pushing through today, but the clear skies return overnight, and the temperatures again drop to around 31 with the radiational cooling and calm winds. This will bring back some frost in the early morning hours.

Little changes for tomorrow, another mostly sunny day after a frosty morning start, calm winds, the afternoon high temperature up near 49. With partly cloudy skies tomorrow night, and calm winds, the low again falls to near 31 so we can expect that frost to return.

Wednesday looks mostly sunny with the calm winds again, the afternoon high up near 51, then another partly cloudy night, the low a little warmer at near 33.

Thursday starts out mostly sunny then a slight chance of rain moves in by around sunset with the approaching front, the high near 51, then more clouds with rain likely later that night, the low near 36.

Partly sunny Friday, still a slight chance of rain, the high near 48, then mostly clear skies return Friday night, the low drops to near 30.

It looks like we have another chilly weekend in store, back comes the sunny skies with the high up near 49, and with the clear skies both nights, lows drop back down to near 30.
