By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer
Well, happy Monday to ya Tillamook, here we are on the last day of March and we are still talking about low pressure areas off the coast rotating showers across the region. In the last 24 hours, areas in and around Tillamook have seen from just under a half inch of rain to over three-quarter inches of rain, depending on how many showers passed over your location. Today, we watch a couple of low pressure areas off the coast, one weaker low moving northward off the coast of Washington, and a stronger one off the Oregon coast moving toward southern Oregon. There is also an upper level trough of low pressure helping to enhance the showers across the region. Like yesterday, when we add in daytime heating, we could again see some isolated thunderstorms around. The wind today southerly 8-12, gusting to 18 near the showers, the afternoon high temperature near 52.
The low to our west tracks into the Oregon/California border tonight so the shower activity becomes more isolated, the winds becoming westerly 4-8 but diminishing, the low temperature down near 36.
Tomorrow, a weak ridge causes the shower activity to ease under partly sunny skies, the winds becoming westerly 4-8, high temperatures near 53. The shower activity again increases tomorrow night as another disturbance moves in, the winds slowly diminish, lows near 40.
And look for the scattered shower activity to continue Wednesday with light winds, highs near 51, lows near 38.
By Thursday we see that trough finally sliding eastward as an upper level ridge starts to build in. This diminishes the shower activity later that morning, the high near 51, with a mostly clear night Thursday, the low drops to near 37.
Friday on through the weekend sees fair, dry and mild conditions returning with sunny skies, high temperatures in the 60s, peeking Sunday at 69, mostly clear nights, lows in the mid 40s.
Read carefully tomorrow, it’s April 1st, don’t be, “Fooled”. Also, here are some fun facts, April 5th is International Pillow Fight Day, April 7th is National No Housework Day, and for the sky watchers, on April 12th we have a Full Pink Micromoon, a day, or rather, a night when the moon is farthest away from earth.
That’s it for now folks, on this last day in March this is meteorologist Gordon McCraw saying, see ya in April Tillamook.
