With Bayside Commons at 96% occupancy (and the last unit should be filled later this week), Daryn Murphy of North Development is turning his attention to the company’s second north county affordable housing project – the re-design of the former Nehalem Bay House into independent living apartments for seniors. “Bayside Commons is finalizing the applications for the last available apartments,” noted Murphy. “It did take longer to fill the apartments then we thought it would.” Over half of the original waiting list applicants were “just barely” over the income limits, which demonstrates the continued need for a variety of housing options.
North Development is now finalizing the details to close on the purchase of the former Nehalem Bay House in April, now known as Alder Creek Commons. The assisted living facility apartments will be remodeled to include kitchens and other upgrades to provide independent living for seniors. Remodeling construction will begin this spring with a six-month timeline, and anticipated opening before the end of the year.
In the last decade, since the initial Housing Task Force, Tillamook County has made great strides in adding a variety of housing options in all parts of Tillamook County. Housing continues to be a challenge, but there are many more housing units in the development pipeline and we should see continued progress toward providing all types of housing. Watch for continued updates about new housing options in Tillamook County.
