(Manzanita, OR) – The Lower Nehalem Community Trust and Portland Audubon invite the community to Alder Creek Farm from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, May 13th to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day. Get to know your resident and migratory birds at this all-ages event. There will be binoculars to loan and spotting scopes set up to observe birds in different habitats throughout the farm, both from easily accessible locations and further afield.
Join one of two community bird walks led by Audubon’s Coastal Community Science Biologist and local birding experts as well as a guided tour of native plants along the Nehalem Teaching Trail. Bring something comfy to sit on and drop in on one of three ‘Big Sit’ stations where seasoned birders will help point out species by sight and sound and will keep a running tally of birds throughout the day. Kids and families can have some fun playing bird habitat bingo and checking out the kid’s activity station hosted by Hoffman Center for the Arts.
Come meet local partners and organizations working in the fields of conservation, education, and wildlife rehabilitation at the interactive table plaza next to the barn. Learn more about community conservation and the amazing projects that are happening around the North Coast. Beverages and light snacks are provided and you are invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the garden or around the wildlife reserve.
This event is made possible by sponsorship from the Oregon Birding Association, Roundhouse Foundation and Tillamook Estuaries Partnership.
