Kari Fleisher would like to officially announce her campaign to represent Tillamook County as your next Assessor. Please vote for Kari Fleisher in May 2024.
Kari has worked for the office for over 20 years and looks forward to stepping up and filling the shoes that Denise Vandecoevering leaves behind in retirement in January 2025.
Kari’s appraisal career started as an appraiser trainee in January 2004 after leaving her job as a Quality Control Manager for an Organic Spice Company in San Marcos, California. The high cost of living and lack of income growth led Kari and future husband, Steele to move back home to Tillamook County, where she grew up, and Steele Fleisher had volunteered at Camp Magruder.
After landing a second interview, Kari began her career in property appraisal. She started appraising instantly in rural North County for Nehalem, Wheeler, and Miami Foley. She quickly obtained rural South County, which consisted of Cloverdale, Beaver, Hebo, Slab Creek, and the like. It wasn’t long before she began appraising farms and forestland. Within four years, Kari started to appraise commercial and industrial properties. Years later, Kari is appraising commercial, industrial, tax exemptions, and residential properties in Neskowin, Pacific City, Tierra Del Mar, and Cascade Head. Kari is responsible for 25% of the appraisal workload annually, with a staff of 9 appraisers.
Kari is a hard worker, dedicated to her craft, and always wants to do the best job for her community. She became a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers in 2007. Through her membership, Kari has taken multiple courses to enhance her education, networked with fellow appraisers and assessors, and kept current on changes in appraisal standards. During the end of the pandemic, Kari decided it was time to increase her knowledge base, and she enrolled back at Southern Oregon University, where she had previously received her bachelor’s degree, to obtain her master’s in business administration. Kari completed her degree in less than 16 months and was awarded for being in the top 90% of MBA graduates who took the MBA field test. Kari specializes in data analytics, which will continue to be essential in the mass appraisal of properties.
Kari, from a young age, was community-minded and remains so today from a 12-year 4-H member, Oregon 4-H Ambassador, former City Councilor and City Council President for the City of Bay City, former President of a local union representing 200+ employees in Tillamook County, Director of the Neah-Kah-Nie School Board, Vice Chair of the Tillamook County Housing Commission, and Chair of the Legislative Committee for the Housing Commission. This dedication and community input led her to run for this position in 2012 and Commissioner in 2018. Kari is also passionate about speaking up for or against new legislation impacting her community and would continue to do so as an elected official when appropriate.
Kari has the desire, ability, and smarts to do this job successfully in the long term without bias. Kari will continue to collaborate with numerous stakeholders to maintain relationships and keep current on rules and responsibilities. Kari aims to enhance taxpayer education about the tax laws that impact them regarding their property and business via the website, in-person events, and the media.
