Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse will have an informal meet and greet outside Cape Meares Lighthouse Thursday May 26th 1-3pm for anyone curious about the Friends or volunteering at the lighthouse. With summer just around the corner, we’re all looking for new ways to get out in the sunshine. Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse are seeking new lighthouse volunteers to share information and answer visitor questions. No experience needed! Bring a friend or relative along to share one of our most breath-taking spots on the coast! Meet Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse, find out some history and what volunteer opportunities are available. Stop by between 1-3pm Thursday May 26th outside Cape Meares Lighthouse Take Hwy 131 into Netarts and turn right as you near Oceanside to continue onto Cape Meares Loop for 2 miles to the lighthouse.
Lise Zimmerman, the Coordinator for Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse shared this updated: “The lighthouse lens room will not be open for tours this summer due to current instability in the fresnel lens. The gift store and lower level will be open by June 1. Unfortunately. the repair done to the damage caused by the vandalism in 2010 has failed and measures have been taken to prevent further damage from occurring including closing the room to tours to prevent vibrating the cast iron staircase and platform beneath the lens. The Friends feel it is very important to continue providing visitors with information about the site during this time and more volunteers are needed to make this possible.”
