By Chazz Miska, Neah-Kah-Nie Speech & Debate Team Assistant Coach
Wow! Your NKN Pirate Speech & Debate Team continues to amaze – even their coaches! – as they positively shined at the District tournament enroute to the State Championships this week. Our students were entered in 11 events at District. To move onto State, they had to place First or Second in their events, which they did in NINE of their ELEVEN events! For those of you Math Nerds, that’s 81.8%! (Good Grief!)
Here’s how the Pirates fared at the 2021 District Tourney:
-Ashley Hamann, 1st in Humorous Interpretation, 2nd in Radio;
-Dinah Schultz, 1st in Oratory, 2nd in Open Poetry;
-Emily Stanfield, 2nd in After Dinner Speaking, 2nd in Open Prose;
-Kara Rumage, 1st in Informative Speaking, 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation;
-Americas Pierson, 1st in Open Prose;
-Samantha Swan and Kara Rumage, 2nd in Parliamentary Debate
Neah-Kah-Nie placed 2nd overall in District Sweepstakes, the team competition, just four points behind the winner. Hannah Reynolds, NKN’s Head Speech & Debate Coach, deserves the credit for inspiring our students to achieve greatness during a school year filled with doubt and uncertainty, for which she gets her photo added to today’s post! Great work, Hannah!
Stay tuned! I hope to have State Results soon. In addition, I have one more incredible bit of Pirate Speech & Debate news that will be coming your way in a couple weeks. If you see any of these terrific students, be sure to congratulate them on Districts and their outstanding season! — at Neah-Kah-Nie High School.
