James McDonald of Rockaway Beach, OR passed away on May 31, 2023 at the age of 78.
He was a Mason contractor by trade. Jim grew up in a logging family moving often around Oregon and Northern California. His sister and brother were both born in Tillamook, and his Grandparents lived in Garibaldi. Jim was born in Lebanon, OR but always wanted to move to the area his family loved best. So, in 1995 Jim and his wife Robin moved to Garibaldi and opened a Native American Style shop called Dreamcatchers Trading Post. Shortly afterwards they bought their property in Rockaway Beach and in 1996 made it their business and home.
Always willing to lend a helping hand to people in his community, Jim was a jack of all trades.
Jim loved woodworking and could make almost anything. He made and sold Native American Style Flutes in their store and around the world. He even carved a handle for a vintage stove oven door a friend had. No one could tell the difference.
He also enjoyed repairing and servicing vintage sewing machines, especially Featherweights.
Jim was a Vietnam Veteran proudly serving his country in the Navy as an electrician technician and was honorably discharged after four years of serving.
He loved God and spent many hours reading and studying his Bible. He would discuss the things of God with private groups. God was number one in Jim’s life.
Jim’s favorite place to hang out with Robin was at the Barview Jetty where he and Robin were married 25 years ago. They were partners in life for 30 years.
Honoring his wishes there will be no services. In the past when asked what he wanted done with his ashes he said, “I really don’t care, they aren’t me and I won’t be there!” That was our Jim.
Jim will be loved forever and greatly missed by Robin and all his family and friends.
