October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a month to stand united in support of survivors and raise awareness of the ongoing advocacy and justice initiatives to hold abusers accountable and train health care professionals to recognize signs of domestic violence early.
Throughout this month, Tides of Change is hosting engagement and support activities. Join in on the support by putting up purple lights in your home or business (these can be purchased from Tides of Change if you do not have purple lights, proceeds help survivors), posting a sign that you support survivors, and wear purple and attend the Shine a Light for Survivors event downtown Tillamook on October 20th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Second Street Plaza, downtown Tillamook. This is a family-friendly event with arts and crafts, free purple ribbons & glow sticks, and resources from community organizations. This event also serves as a donation drive if you have household products that can be added to Survivor Welcome Home baskets.
One of the most important things to know about domestic violence is that it can happen to anyone, at any point in a relationship. If you are experiencing domestic violence, visit https://www.tidesofchangenw.org/ for local support and safety.
