Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue responded last evening, June 6th at 5:56pm to a reported water rescue incident on the South fork of the Nehalem River near Lommen Road. On arrival
crews found one adult female and one adult male that had reportedly capsized their canoe while recreating on the river. The adult male did not survive the incident despite
efforts of bystanders and on scene crews. Due to rough terrain around the river a high angle rope system was needed to access and extricate the male subject.
As always, we remind residents and visitors to be mindful in and around our waterways and ocean, and to be acquainted with the associated hazards they present.
Please wear properly sized personal flotation devices and know your limitations.
