(NEWPORT, Ore) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting an Oct. 2 public meeting to discuss the 2025 sport Pacific halibut season. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the ODFW Newport office, 2040 SE Marine Science Dr. with a virtual option.
ODFW manages Pacific halibut in partnership with the Pacific Fishery Management (Council). Changes to the Pacific halibut Catch Sharing Plan were discussed with the public at meetings held in July and August. Now, ODFW is looking for input on specific proposals forwarded by the Council on providing more flexibility for the Columbia River and Central Oregon Coast subareas depending on quota available.
ODFW will bring public input to the Council at their November meeting where final changes will be adopted. The fishing quota will be set in January by the International Pacific Halibut Commission.
Background materials for the meeting are posted on the ODFW Sport Halibut Management Webpage.
