(Aug. 29, 2024, MANZANITA) – U.S. 101 is closed four miles north of Manzanita in the Oswald West State Park area for inspection of damage to a bridge.
A section of sidewalk and guardrail collapsed on the Necarney Creek Thursday afternoon, and we closed the bridge as a precaution until we can inspect the damage. There is no estimate of how long the bridge will be closed.
If possible, we will open a single lane and flag traffic, depending on the results of our inspection. We want travelers to be aware that emergency repairs may require a lane closure or full closure beyond Thursday.
We urge people planning to travel the north Oregon coast to plan ahead. If we flag traffic through a single lane this weekend, expect long delays. If there is a full closure, the nearest detour is using U.S. 26 and OR 53.
The Necarney Creek Bridge was built in 1937, and the section of sidewalk that failed is a part of the original construction. It is located at about milepost 39, in the Oswald West State Park area.
