Tillamook County proudly presents its Third Annual International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 28th, from 4-7 PM at Blue Heron French Cheese Company in Tillamook.
Join us for an evening of remembrance and support, featuring live music, resources and support, free t-shirts, and a complimentary dinner for the first 100 attendees. This event is part of the world’s largest campaign to end overdose (International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31st), honor those we’ve lost, and stand with the families and friends left behind. Learn more about ways to prevent overdoses, Nalaxone/Narcan training and local programs that provide help and hope.
Let’s come together to raise awareness and create a future free from the tragedy of overdose.
One life lost is one too many – the Oregon Health Authority estimates that 5 Oregonians die every week from opioid related overdoses. In 2021, 548 Oregonians died from unintentional opioid overdoses, up from 462 deaths in 2020 (Oregon DOJ https://buff.ly/3PiQNTs). Unintentional opioid overdoses are preventable.
Today and everyday we grieve those lives lost and recognize the systemic and policy failures that contribute to the losses. We aim to continue to transform healthcare to meet the needs of our community through harm reduction and syringe exchange programs. For people who use drugs, supporting them in preventing overdoses and adopting safer use practices is a proven step toward hope, healing and health.
