In a crucial step toward the restoration of the Tillamook Bay South Jetty, the Port of Garibaldi will be temporarily closing the Port’s dirt lot/staging area located between the Port office and US Coast Guard Station to public access. This area will be utilized by Trade West Construction to deliver the essential jetty rocks for the Jetty Repair Project. The area will be prepped and eqiupment staged for the arrival of the rocks in early April, with the closures starting next week.
The rocks will arrive at the Port by truck and be loaded onto a barge for transport across the bay to the Bayocean Staging area located at Kincheloe Point. During this temporary closure, a fence will be installed around the staging area in the Port. The crabbing pier will remain open to the public and accessible to the west of the staging area. There will be a few ADA parking spots available at the pier entrance, however all other users must park to the north of the fenced staging area. This access road must not be blocked and remain accessible to emergency vehicles. (See map.)
Additionally, during the project, access to portions of the Bayocean Peninsula will be restricted. The affected areas include: the northern end of the peninsula, the jetty itself, Kincheloe Point, and portions of Bayocean Dike Road beyond the parking lot and gate. This measure allows for safe and efficient construction.
On another note, now that the South Jetty Repair Project is moving forward, the Port is working with the US Army Corps of Engineers to get authorization for the establishment of a “stepped channel” at the entrance which will include dredging of the bar.
We understand that these temporary closures may be inconvenient, however they are necessary to ensure public safety during the project. The repair of the Tillamook Bay Jetty System is essential for the safety of all recreational and commercial vessels and to support the region’s economy.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this project, port staff will do our best to help minimize the impacts to our tenants, guests, and the community.
Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
