Rick Estrin was born in San Francisco in 1949 and grew up immersed in the city’s vibrant African-American culture. He started playing the harmonica at 15 and quickly made a name for himself in the local blues scene. Estrin’s career took off after meeting blues legends like Lowell Fulson and Muddy Waters, and he eventually formed Little Charlie & The Nightcats with guitarist Charlie Baty. Following Baty’s retirement, Estrin formed Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, bringing in guitar virtuoso Kid Andersen.
Kid Andersen hails from Telemark, Norway, and moved to California at 21. He has a reputation as a multi-instrumentalist and producer, having worked with numerous blues greats and running the acclaimed Greaseland Studio.
Lorenzo Farrell grew up in Indiana and California, starting on piano at age five and later mastering the organ. A member of the Nightcats since 2003, Farrell has collaborated with a variety of artists, enhancing his reputation as a versatile and sought-after musician.
Derrick “D’Mar” Martin is a powerhouse drummer and former member of Little Richard’s band. With a career spanning multiple artists and genres, D’Mar brings a wealth of experience and energy to the Nightcats.
The event coincides with the release of the band’s new album, “The Hits Keep Coming,” featuring ten original tracks and covers of classics by Muddy Waters and Leonard Cohen. The album showcases the band’s signature blend of quick-witted songwriting and exceptional musicianship. Autographed CDs and LPs will be available for purchase at the concert.
