SALEM, Ore. – Oregon households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits who lost food due to winter storms or power outages this week may be eligible for replacement benefits, according to Oregon Department of Human Services officials.
Reach out to the Oregon Department of Human Services within 10 days of the loss by phone (800-699-9075), email (oregon.benefits@odhsoha.oregon.gov), or visit your local office to get the process started. You can also send a written request by mail to ONE Customer Service Center, PO Box 14015, Salem, OR 97309.
Oregon DHS officials said that SNAP program beneficiaries can request replacement benefits to replace food lost or was deemed unsafe to eat as a result of power outages related to this week’s winter storms but must submit their request within 10 calendar days of the food loss. The maximum amount that can be requested is the normal monthly benefit received by the household, state DHS officials said. State officials said that the replacement benefits are added to the household’s existing electronic benefits transfer card once the request is approved.
SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to about 1 million individuals in Oregon, Oregon DHS officials said. Other available resources include an online statewide listing of food pantries and the ‘2-1-1’ phone hotline for various community resources, including housing and food, along with the Aging and Disability Resource Connection of Oregon, which can be reached at 1-855-673-2372.
