On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Tillamook County, Oregon Circuit Court issued a Judgement regarding the City’s Police Chief, Raymond Rau, in response to four counts of criminal activity as charged by the State of Oregon, Department of Criminal Justice.
Mr. Rau was charged with four counts and convicted on the following two counts:
1. Count 1: Official Misconduct in the First Degree, and
2. Count 3: Official Misconduct in the Second Degree.
The other two counts, Count # 2, Theft in the Second Degree, and Count # 4, Theft in the Third Degree, were both dismissed.
In response to these convictions, Mr. Rau was sentenced to surrender his Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Certification, a 36-month bench probation, a compensatory fine of $800 paid to the City of Tillamook, and 10 days of jail effective immediately. Any details or questions on the criminal case may be directed to the Oregon Department of Criminal Justice.
Mr. Rau is no longer an employee of the City of Tillamook. The City would like to thank Lt. Nick Troxel, who has been serving as the City’s Acting Police Chief since Mr. Rau has been on leave. The City will be posting notice of the open position of Police Chief within the next week and encourages all qualified applicants to apply.
The City has robust policies, procedures, and measures to help ensure that such incidents do not occur.
But there is no guarantee that everything is foolproof and unfortunately sometimes incidents do occur.
The City wants to reassure the public that it is committed to continuing to provide a high level of public service and will continue to do so in all areas of City Government.
