The Newport Symphony Orchestra at the Ocean, conducted by Adam Flatt with guest artist Katherine Evans, trumpet and piccolo trumpet, will perform music of Schubert, Ravel, Hertel, Hovhaness and Mendelssohn.
As the NSO’s profile has risen to the top rank of coastal cultural organizations, sold out audiences along the Oregon Coast have extravagantly praised Adam Flatt’s exciting and committed musical leadership and compelling programming.
From Maestro Flatt “The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month: November 11, 1918 marked the end of the Great War. A century has since passed, and we yet in so many ways we exist in the world that emerged from it. Maurice Ravel’s exquisite “Tombeau,” in homage to the grand, departed, old world, brings the focus to individuals. It is one of the most beautiful works of the twentieth century.”
The program includes:
FRANZ SCHUBERT Overture in C Major, D. 591 “In the Italian Style”
MAURICE RAVEL Le Tombeau de Couperin
J.W. HERTEL Trumpet Concerto No. 3 in D major
ALAN HOVHANESS Prayer of Saint Gregory
FELIX MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 4, “Italian”
