s will soon have their long-awaited opportunity to preview and weigh in on Fusion Lodging’s plans for a new hotel to replace Oceanside Cabins.
Steve Ewoldt of the Portland architectural firm “Wood Block” has accepted an invitation from the ONA and the Oceanside Protection Society to attend a special meeting at the Oceanside Community Hall on
March 5 at 6 p.m. Evoldt (who owns property in Oceanside and eventually plans to retire here) is the project’s managing architect and primary spokesman. He is the one who reached out last year to provide
The Oceansider with the preliminary details of the project that we previously published. The March meeting fulfills the commitment he made to brief the community and seek input before the plans are finalized. In addition, county Community Development Director Sarah Absher has announced that she will hold at least one public hearing before acting on any permit applications submitted for the project.
ONA Emergency Team Unveils Volunteer Radio Network (and a New Name)
“Oceanside Sector 5 – Camelot. This is Oceanside Central. Do you read me?
“Oceanside Central. This is Oceanside Sector 5 – Camelot. I read you loud and clear.”
Once every month, radio exchanges like this are conducted between a lead volunteer centrally located on Maxwell Mountain Road and others residing in each of 15 designated neighborhoods throughout Oceanside. The monthly radio roll calls (now in their third month) are a drill organized by the ONA Emergency Preparedness Team to maintain the readiness of its recently established Oceanside Volunteer Emergency Radio Network. According to its organizers, the Network consists of “Oceanside residents who have volunteered to help their neighbors seek assistance from the Netarts-Oceanside Fire/Emergency District when a disaster event prevents them from contacting 911 directly by other means.” Here is a link to the Team’s newly-released User Guide.

The User Guide outlines the elements of the program, including a directory and maps for Oceansiders to identify the designated Sector Captains in their neighborhoods. Questions about the network may be emailed to team Co-Chairs Rob Hoeper or John Prather via oceansidefriends@gmail.com.
In addition, the ONA Emergency Preparedness Team has changed its name to the Oceanside Volunteer Emergency Readiness Team (“OVERT”) and unveiled a logo graciously designed by Oceansiders Andrew Roberts and Kristin Bye.
The logo will appear on all future public communications and resource guides disseminated by the Team to the community. OVERT will also soon be posting more such resources on the ONA website –
