Wishing you a happy Spring from the Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse. We hope you were able to get out between spring showers and spot some of the migrating gray whales as they visit our Oregon Coast including off our very own Cape Meares Lighthouse. Starting now and in the coming weeks many of Oregon’s birds will begin nesting, including along the cliffs at Cape Meares Lighthouse. Be sure to bring your binoculars when you manage to sneak in a short hike as the weather improves.
The Friends of Cape Meares Lighthouse are gearing up for the 2023 summer lighthouse season, and are looking for volunteers. Most commonly our volunteers greet visitors to the lighthouse, sharing its rich history and answering visitor questions. We’ll also be holding a photo contest, doing historical research, and fundraising projects in the near future. If you are interested in learning more, please email: friendsofcapemeareslighthouse@gmail.com or leave a message at (503) 395-0097. We’ll be holding volunteer training on April 21, and May 8. Spots are limited! Other training dates and options are also available—Please inquire for details!
Our Coordinator, Lise Zimmerman has also prepared a short presentation on the history of Cape Meares Lighthouse’s lens and is available to talk to your community organization. We’d love to hear from you!
