Dr. Itzel Romero recently joined the Tillamook County Community Health Dental Clinic and is now accepting new Medicaid and uninsured dental patients.
Itzel Romero graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American/Latino Studies from Linfield College. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston.
Since high school, Romero has been interested in the field of dentistry. She was inspired by a local program run by an orthodontist in Central Oregon that allowed patients to pay for half of their dental treatment through volunteer hours. She became involved as a dental volunteer, then as a dental assistant before eventually earning her DDS. Years later, that experience is what inspires Dr. Romero to work with underserved communities.
“My favorite part of dentistry is being able to build relationships with my patients, educating them on oral care, the importance of it to their overall health, and working together with them to achieve optimal oral health,” shared Dr. Romero. After completing her training in Texas, Dr. Romero was ready to return home to Oregon to be closer to her parents and siblings. In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets, watching movies, engaging in occasional retail therapy and travelling.
“Dr. Romero is a skilled dentist and is a bilingual dental provider for our Hispanic and Latino patients in Tillamook County, “said Marlene Putman, Administrator of the Tillamook County Community Health Centers and Director of the Tillamook County Health and Human Services Department. “We are very happy to welcome her and look forward to increasing our capacity to address dental health in the community.”
Dr. Romero is accepting new Medicaid and uninsured patients at the Tillamook County Community Health Dental office at 805 Ivy Street in Tillamook. Patients interested in making an appointment can call (503)-842-2356.
