Nearly six months ago the Tillamook YMCA purchased Tillamook Lanes as an effort to expand programs and services. The goal is to provide a safe drop-in and outplace for youth while they are out of school as well as maintain current recreational programs like bowling leagues that serve youth and adults all while providing an activity-based center that is open to the public.
“It has been quite the adventure to undertake a new property that provides services that I am pretty unfamiliar with,” Said Kaylan from the Y, “I like a challenge though and this seems to be something the community really wants to see move forward.”
The past few months have already produced some exciting moments with the Men’s League Championship going to Gitchell Heating in December
and then recently seeing a perfect 300 game bowled by Kevin Brandon, a new resident to the area.
Additionally, the Y has made good on the promise of free programs for community youth. So far making youth bowling league 100% free for all community youth bringing the youth league from five participants last year to over 50 this year. The PAC also opened the doors to school groups from Wilson School, East School, Charity Drive, and committing to partnership with Tillamook Junior High School to add a bowling unit to the PE curriculum.
These programs and services as well as the exciting moments would not have been possible without community support. The charitable giving effort was led by the Pastega Family Foundation with a pledge of $1 Million to enhance the opportunities for community members. As this project moves forward you will see a rebranding effort as a sign of appreciation for the Pastega’s contribution to the community as the center will operate under the name Pastega Activity Center, or as we have affectionally started calling it, the PAC.
You can follow the PAC on Facebook for more information and updates as renovations and program additions take shape.
