It’s Tillamook County Fair week – opening day is Wednesday August 9th through Saturday August 12th. Visitors to the Tillamook County Master Gardeners’ Learning Garden will be greeted by a dazzling display of dahlias. In keeping with the theme ‘Let Freedom Ring’, the blueberries and red raspberries are producing and just the right height for the kids to sample. The petunia bed is showing off the US Flag with red, white
and blue flowers along with a very patriotic vegetable bed.
What is wrong with my tomato! What’s Bugging my Vegetables? Poster board displays in the Hoop House will answer those questions and more. See examples of raised bed and container gardening plus native plants and varieties to attract pollinators to your garden. Potted Dahlias will be available for a donation.
The Extension Master Gardener Program is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The program originated at Washington State University in 1973 and has grown to over 86,000 volunteers in 49 states. In 2022 there were 2,276 active Master Gardener volunteers directing service to more than 78,713 Oregonians. Statewide Oregon Master Gardeners donated an estimated 27 tons of fresh produce, harvested from Master Gardener‐managed community and demonstration gardens to local food banks and food pantries.
Tillamook Master Gardener Hosts will be in the Learning Garden from 10 am to 7pm each day of the fair and welcome your questions. Enjoy a quiet place to sit in the shade and enjoy the beautiful garden.
