Miami Foley Road MP 8.8 Update:
Crystal Creek washed out Miami-Foley Road at MP 8.8 creating a 30-ft channel. A 50-ft bridge was designed and permitted to be installed the Summer of 2024. The commissioners approved accelerating the construction of a permanent bridge.
Last Wednesday, December 6th, the Tillamook County Board of Commissioners signed a disaster declaration. HP Civil, who already had a contract with ODOT for this bridge, was hired to expedite the construction. Heavy equipment began rolling to the job site the morning of the 6th. Sunday, December 10th achieved a major milestone. Twelve H-Piles (I-beams) were driven to an approximate depth of 80-ft. Six piles per each side. These piles are the foundation for a permanent bridge. Beams are being loaded onto trucks early this week with the intent that emergency vehicles will be able to cross the bridge on December 14th. The project is ahead of schedule to be open to the public in advance of the December 21st deadline.
Work will remain on this bridge (permanent guardrails, stream work, etc.) and will be addressed during Summer, 2024.
Sandlake Road Slide Update:
Approximately 150 feet of the southbound lane of Sandlake Road between Tierra Del Mar and Pacific City slid approximately 30 feet downslope. This slide is located immediately north of the 1999 slide that caused the road to be relocated in the early 2000’s.
Public Works met with a geotechnical engineer on Thursday, December 7th who will determine a long-term solution for the slide and restore the road to two lanes. This is a complex site, and we want to address the cause of the failure. Public Works met with a second geotechnical engineer to determine if the lane could be shored up to support traffic. Both engineers will be working together.
Monday, December 11th, Public Works will meet with OPRD and others to discuss potential construction and permitting issues that may arise.
No update as to when the short- and long-term construction projects will begin.
