The beautiful weather we had this past weekend brought a lot of people out to enjoy all that Tillamook County has to offer. Hundreds of those folks descended on Sandlake Recreation Area for some off-roading fun. One Jeep did have a reportable mishap, though.
TCSO Sandlake Patrol Deputy Sam Cummings and US Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer Young were patrolling the sand on an ATV and Side-by-Side when they responded to a roll over on the beach. There were four occupants in the vehicle at the time.
911 Dispatchers also got Nestucca Fire-Rescue and Tillamook Ambulance rolling to the scene for possible extrication, medical assessment and treatment.
“Three of the occupants had minor abrasions,” said Officer Young. “The fourth occupant was complaining of multiple injuries and was transported by Nestucca Fire Personnel to the awaiting Ambulance, but It could have been a lot worse.”
Also, over the weekend, TCSO Corporal Chris Barnett responded to Sandlake to retrieve a pistol that was found on the flats. “Other than that, there were no major calls at Sandlake, just your typical alcohol and ATV violations,” said Ranger Alan.
Deputy Cummings and Officer Young had one more bit of advice for the users at Sandlake: Be sure to carefully check the terrain and landing areas before sending it.
The Pioneer usually doesn’t post photos of accidents, but in this case, it serves to send a message about safety when recreating in our beautiful county. Please remember to pack your common sense when you visit, even though we have amazing, friendly first responders, this is not how they want to meet you. Know before you go.
