The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) is actively recruiting for volunteers! Tillamook SAR will be hosting a volunteer training academy in mid-January (dates to be determined)
The coursework will cover topics including land navigation, GPS use and map interpretation, emergency survival, radio use and communications, crime scene security and preservation, search organization, patient care, and all forms of search and rescue techniques.
The coursework will prepare the SAR member to successfully pass the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association standard to be certified to conduct search and rescue. College credit is also available for the search and rescue coursework.
In addition to searching for lost people, Tillamook SAR conducts a wide variety of missions including participating in structured searches for evidence in crime scenes and support law enforcement with critical incidents.
Tillamook SAR members are provided continued training throughout the year to fulfill annual education hour requirements for their SAR certification. The continued training hours include (but not limited to) SAR missions, cooperative trainings with fire departments and other search and rescue programs, computer mapping, rope rescue, and CPR / First Aid training.
