Tillamook County Wellness is pleased to announce they have been selected by the Oregon Health Authority as one of twelve sites in Oregon to host an AmeriCorps VISTA. This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team, working to reduce poverty and improve health outcomes in the state of Oregon. The program is for college graduates seeking work experience in healthcare, community health and wellness or other related services. The position is under the Tillamook County Health Department, also known as Tillamook County Community Health Centers, the backbone agency for Tillamook County Wellness.
Tillamook County Public Health focuses on prevention and uses selected interventions to prevent the spread of disease and reduce health risks. Prevention strategies are population based and designed to improve the overall health of communities. The Tillamook County Wellness Promotion & Diabetes Prevention VISTA will be a critical piece of our county’s vision, working to maintain a county wide wellness coalition and create healthy communities within the county.
The VISTA position involves all aspects of community organizing and the role of public health in community wellness, including building strong partnerships with local government, community care organizations, and non-profit agencies to better meet the health needs of low-income residents. The VISTA member will work with community partners to identify, develop and promote low and no-cost options for healthy activities for low-income residents to help reduce risk for type 2 diabetes and to improve overall health.
