There were multiple reports on social media about objects – rocks and gravel – being thrown off the railroad overpass across Highway 6 (First St.) near Goodspeed Park at night over the weekend. The community page posts were to warn the public about using caution in the area, especially during night time hours. The posts and comments seemed to imply that law enforcement wasn’t taking care of the issue, so the Pioneer reached out to Tillamook Police Chief Nick Troxel to find out the status of the investigation. Cheif Troxel responded immediately, as follows:
“Thank you for reaching out regarding the recent incidents of objects being tossed over the railroad track crossing on 1st Street. These cases are of significant concern to the community, and the Tillamook Police Department remains committed to addressing them thoroughly and collaboratively.
Resolving these incidents involves several steps and coordination with key community partners, including the Tillamook County Juvenile Department, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Tillamook Public Works, and the Port of Tillamook Bay, among others.
While most of these cases have been cleared, there are still some incidents where no suspects have been identified. Rest assured, our department is actively working with our partners to investigate and eliminate this behavior to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.
We encourage members of the community to report any suspicious activities or provide any information that could assist in our efforts. Together, we can continue to maintain the safety and integrity of our shared spaces.”
