Dear Parents and Community Members,
I am writing to provide follow-up communication regarding the incident that occurred at Tillamook’s home football game on October 25, 2024. In response to concerns raised, OSAA engaged a third-party investigator to conduct a thorough review of the events and any potential violations that took place during the game.
The investigation found that Milwaukie players and coaches were warmly welcomed, and their administrators expressed feeling supported by TSD9 leadership at the game’s conclusion. It was also confirmed that a single instance of inappropriate language was used by a Tillamook student-athlete and referenced by an officiant when addressing the athlete’s misconduct.
I understand there may have been concerns about the tone or clarity of my initial communication on this matter (see link above.) My intent was to inform our community proactively and to ensure accuracy by bsing my comments on verified facts. If my message came across unsupportive or unclear, I apologize. Please know that I value the trust you place in me as TSD9’s superintendent and am committed to transparency and thoughtful communication in service to our community.
We have incredible students, and I remain deeply proud of our programs both on and off the field. Our greatness as a community extends far beyond sports — into our classrooms, relationships, and shared values. My hope is that we can come together to move forward, focusing on the bright seasons ahead and the opportunities for growth and connection they bring.
For Kids,
Matt Ellis
Superintendent, TSD9
