In a letter to the community, Tillamook School District #9 announced plans for changes to Wilson River High School’s location. Currently housed at Wilson School on Third Street in Tillamook, the District will re-locate the program to Tillamook High School for next school year in September 2025.
Here’s the letter from TSD#9 Leadership:
“We wanted to let you know about a change in programming for Wilson School that will begin in the 25/26 school year. Wilson River High School will be shifting its location to Tillamook High School.
Additionally, our alternative programs will be modified to align more with our secondary programming. The Re-engagement Center’s top priority will be to provide personalized support to meet the unique needs of every student. We recognize students have many reasons for needing an alternative education program. We will continue to meet them where they are at to help them be successful in school and in the future.
Other important details include:
- This change will enhance opportunities for our Wilson River students by allowing them access to services and programs currently provided at THS, while also allowing them the same individualized attention that we know is necessary for their educational success.
- The Re-engagement Center will operate as a school within a school. In addition to being able to access THS services and programs, Wilson River students will also have access to their own learning spaces where class sizes are reduced and staff are available to provide assistance.
- Some Wilson River staff will be placed in open TSD9 positions and some will remain part of the Re-engagement programming. We want to ensure that Wilson students will continue to see familiar faces an as they manage the change have the support of those they trust.
- This decision does not come lightly. The leadership team is working slowly and thoughtfully to ensure the needs of students are best met. This will include allowing students to have a voice in the design of the program as staff meet with them to collect input in the coming months. We want to ensure we are able to maintain the Wilson qualities that are most important to them.
- TSD9 Preschool will not be moving. They will continue to be housed on the west side of the building with NWRESD.
We know that this will be an adjustment for everyone. However, we are confident that this change will allow us to better serve our students. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Wilson River team for all that they do each and every day to meet the needs of students. We are confident that they will continue to do this across our district. We also want to say thank you in advance to the THS team for welcoming our Wilson River students and staff back into the folds of the high school.
Above all else, we remain committed to serving every student ensuring they have the support and opportunities to reach their fullest potential now and in the future.”
